Tape Media Ejecting after backup

Hi

We are using Netbackup 7.6 with Dell PowerVault 114X( with 2 drive options).  After each backup to tape media, the respective tape ejects from the drive.

Is there any setting which needs to be done on Netbackup software or it's related to hardware.

Thank You

  • Apologies. I thought this was a tape library/autoloader.

Seems these are standalone tape drives?

You will need to use nbemmcmd command to disable Standalone Eject.

    See this discussion:

    control Tape Eject

I could only get it to work when I typed everything in lowercase:

nbemmcmd -changesetting -do_not_eject_standalone yes -machinename <server-name>

  • Why do you NOT want it to eject?

There is a default 'Unmount Delay' of 3 minutes while NBU is waiting for more backups to start.

Host Properties -> Media server -> Media -> Media unmount delay

  • Hi.

If the tape ejects from the drive, how will the next backup take place, until someone has to manually go and insert the tape again.

If it's a remote site, then it would be a problem as there won't be anyone to manually insert the tape after each backup.

    Thank You

  • You may want to convince your management that a small autoloader is needed at the remote site...
