Unable to connect to Java Console -7.6.0.1

Hello All,

This will be a long shot, but I've tried everything else:

I have a master server on version 7.6.0.1 that has been working fine and consistently for the past several years.

It is installed in a Linux server and I usually connect to the java console from a Windows server, on the same network, no firewalls in between.

Two days ago, I tried to connect to it and I got an error:

"Unable to connect to the selected NetBackup host 'mastername'

1 - Make sure the user 'myusername' has privileges on the host.
2 - Make sure the local host is listed in the server list of the destination host 'mastername'
3 - Make sure there is a valid network connection
4 - Check authentication
5 - Make sure all the services are running on the host"

1 - I'm not sure how to check my username in the master, since I have no access to the console. I've looked around and there is supposed to be a command "bppluser", which I don't have. Maybe it came in version after 7.6?

2 - The server is listed in bp.conf of master, both with and without fqdn

3 - Same network, pings ok, ssh ok, all good

4 - How do you check authentication?

5 - All services running as far as I can tell. Master was rebooted, and also netbackup services were rebooted several times.

At some point, I've started trying different things, including redeploying the security certificate, but got an error:

# admincmd/bpnbaz -setupat
You will have to restart NetBackup services on this machine after the command completes successfully.
Do you want to continue(y/n)y
Gathering configuration information.
ERROR: Failed to start security services - /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/nbatd -f
Unable to fork child process.

I tried it both with the nbu services running and stopped, same result, always using root account.

Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

  • Hey

In the /usr/openv/netbackup/logs please create these logs:

    cd /usr/openv/netbackup/logs

    ./mklogdir bpjava-msvc bpjava-susvc bpjava-usvc admin

    edit the /usr/openv/netbackup/bp.conf

    add there line

    VERBOSE=5

    run /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bprdreq -rereadconfig

retry the java gui - check all produced logs in made directories.... maybe you will find some clues.

check also for disk space if there is enough

    df -hP
