  • Open the attachment in this Technote and it will tell you what OS you can use as a Master server:

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH76648

Expannd "Operating System" and go through each one. You'll be interested in the NetBackup Server part for each OS.

You will notice Windows 7 only shows it's available to use in NetBackup as a client.

NetBackup 7.5 Documentation is available here: http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5138

  • You can install Windows Admin Console to manage a Master server.

It seems you have VMware workstation installed on your laptop?

You can install Windows 2008 or a supported Linux version as VM and use that for NBU master server.

To get to know NBU, start with NBU 'Getting Started Guide'. You can find the link to this and all other NBU manuals in the 7.5 documentation link provided by revaroo above.

  • @Marianne : m i seeing something wrong out.. Or is it our post are marked in negatives.. ain't understand what was negative out here from everyone of us who replied...(out of post reply)..... or those were positive but its showing incorrect here.

  • Captain, I wonder if the negative votes are from a competitor? If not it's either an internet troll or a bug in the forum software?

  • We have asked the admins to investigate and trace the culprit(s).
  • I just gave a plus to Jack's post as he gave a good answer.

Windows 7 is desktop family operating system, NBU was never meant to run as master/media server on Desktop OS. You can install Remote Admin Console/or Java console though.

Odd about all the other minuses; never seen that before.

  • The admins are busy investigating.

These negative votes should stop from today onwards....
