unimplemented error code 255

Dears,

Am trying to backup a hyperv VM, but the action failed with error "Error bpbrm(pid=11104) socket read failed, An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.  (10054)"

For the same VM, if i try to create backup policy it ends with error message "unimplemented error code 255"

Kindly find the attachments for this issue and the details below.

Backup versoin : Symantec netbackup 7.6.0.3

Hyper V : winsows server 2008 R2.

Thanks

  • As a test, try to upgrade your client version to 7.6.0.4. Its not usually recommened to run clients higher than the master/media but it would highlight if there is some issue with the 7.6.0.3 binary. Assuming you're facing this issue with all hyperv backup from that hyperv host...

  • You need to find out what is wrong/different about this particular VM.

Is this MS-Windows policy with NBU client installed in VM or Hyper-V policy?

Which OS on this VM? Have you confirmed compatibility?

  • Hello,

create Loggng Assistant record pointing to failed job ID. It wil likely setup bpfis logging on HyperV host and maybe some other logging. Then rerun the backup and investigate the logs. It looks like problem with snapshotting.

  • First and foremost, is the VM powered on or not responding?

As per your logs, the bpfis.exe seems to crash (faulting) when trying to create snapshot for the VM, and it has the error during validation:

"snapshot could not be created with Hyper-V_v2 method"

Go to your HyperV host, check if there are hung VSS writers which need to be resolved.

  • Dears,

This is the Host where Net backup administration server installed, in this same Host we have hyper v where we try to backup a VM.

Kindly consider, the target VM is powered on state and dosenot have snapshots.

    Attached the backup policy

Details of Hyper V and Target VM:

    Hyper V host: Windows Server 2008 R2
