User initiated multiple stream backup

client: redhat linux

master: WIN server 2k3

Is it possible to enable or setup multiple streams backup for user initiated backup? If yes, please how?

It appears allow multiple streams backup is greyed out for this policy type

Thank you

  • I think that it will be the DataStore policy that does not allow multiple data streams

You may need several policies to acheive what you want but not sure exactly how you will co-ordinate it all to get the desired results - difficult to say without seeing exactly what you have and what gets run

  • The only way I can see will be to have multiple bpbackup commands.

You say 'multiple streams backup is greyed out for this policy type'?

What type of policy is this? User Backup is a schedule type, not a policy type.

Maybe a database agent policy? If so, the amount of streams that will be generated is controlled by the agent backup script.

  • Marianne, my bad.. I meant to say schedule type. Yes this is database agent policy using "DataStore" as policy type. The client is netezza running redhat OS. Backup is configured to be initiated by user while given then 24/7 backup window. Backup script is setup to run backup in parrallelism from the scripts. But was a little bit on the edge when I saw that " allow multiple data streams" is greyed out.

  • Only Standard and MS-Windows policy type allows multi-streaming as policy attribute.

You need to contact Netezza support to find out if multiple streams can be generated from within the backup script (similar to SQL and Oracle)

    See  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH56531

  • Check for Maximum jobs per client value in client global attributes for this specific netezza client.

  • 1. Check for Maximum jobs per client value in client global attributes for this specific netezza client.

In case of Netezza maximum value is 5, set the same value in the client global attributes.

    2. Check for the number of drives available in the Storage Unit allocated to this Netezza policy.

    3. Multiplexing of Netezza backups is also allowed, but it slows down the restores.
