VCB Proxy Documentation (specifically for MultiPathing)

Hi,

I'm setting up a VCB Proxy server to backup virutal servers.

The server is an IBM 3650 with dual port Emulex HBA cards.

This document here:

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1007479

says that only version 1.5 of VCB supports the IBM SDDDSM.

..but all this documentation is a little vague to me.

does anyone know of a definitive hardware compatibility list for VCB?

Do I need to do anything special to connect these Emulex HBAs to the IBM array to get Multipathing to work for VCB?

thanks,

ADDODD

  • ... but if you are trying to use your IBM server as your proxy server please note the following from the documentation:

Supported operating systems for VMware backup proxy server:
The VMware backup proxy server must be installed on a Windows 2003 host.
The supported hardware types are the same as for any NetBackup Windows
    client.

    Supported disk arrays:
NetBackup for VMware can be used with any storage array that VMware
Consolidated Backup (VCB) supports. Make sure the datastore for the ESX server
is on storage that VCB supports.
  • hi,

that last part -- supported disk arrays:  where can i find a VCB hardware support matrix.?

i can't find any useful links in the NBU docs.. :/

  • I cannot find any useful docs from the Symantec side of the house.  So I tried to find some docs from VMware that will provide a list of supported hardware for VCB but I haven't been able to find one.
  • yeah, that's my problem too.

it seems like vcb 1.5 is the only supported version that works with an IBM DS8000 array.

i'll see if i can post something to the vmware lists.

    thanks!

  • Is this a Linux install or AIX? because only windows and LInux are supported platforms for VCB
