Watched the VMWorld 2013 keynote today. There are some nice new features within vsphere 5.5. Do any Symantec insiders out there have any idea when we can expect Netbackup to support this new version?
vSphere 5.5 has arrived too late to be supported by NetBackup 7.6 but we expect to support it with a maintenance within the next 6 months.
I would guess announcement soon and release within 6 months.
Looking at the track record for support of VMware vCenter 5.1, Windows 2012, etc... It could be a while.
On one hand, customers want it. On the other hand, Symantec doesn't care unless their Enterprise/Large Enterprise customers want it. They need/want possible revenue to justify testing and producing code. The only real revenue is from the larger customers. Sad truth.
