What if I delete "pack" directory after upgrade

recently upgraded my solaris  media servers to 7.5.0.4 from 6.5.5.

I am facing space issue in this server as everything is under "/" . I deleted the pack.6.5.5 as it is backup folder

but not sure about "pack" . can I delete this folder.

  • You will not be able to back out the upgrade, otherwise you should be fine.

  • As mentioned by "wr" you will not be able to downgrade the patch (release update -- Symantec term). Rather than deleting entire pack folder you can delete subfolders which has install files and consume lot of space.

The reason for NOT deleting pack directory is .... when you install any hotfix (EEB - In Symantec terms) it updates pack.summary and pack.history file. These files help to keep track of what all patches and hotfixes are installed in your environment.

When you are installing any patch (example 7.5.0.5 on 7.5) the patch offers you an option "no save" which will not save any install files in pack folder however as mentioned earlier you will not be able to downgrade.
