win server 2008 r2 enter. master / mult media servers / issue w/ storage server
Setting up a master with multiple media servers running msdp pools. no policies or backups have happened yet.
the drive being used for msdp pool is being presented from san via iscsi initiator. after initial setup of msdp pool, including creating disk pool and storage unit, realized the drive i used was wrong - should've used 3 tb instead of whole drive, as equal logic needed reserve space. so, i needed to recreate the volume and reformat it.
So, had issues with disconnecting the drive via iscsi initiator, said it was still connected. (i'm new to iscsi initiator), so in my thinking, i deleted the disk pool and storage UNIT associated with this media server - storage server is still there. Ended up having to reboot the server, was able to disconnect / reconfigure the drive, and wanted to re-run the wizard to create a disk pool on this media server, as the media server is still there and listed. Now, I get an error when I try to do this. Please see screenshot.
Did I cause some major problems in deleting the disk pool and storage unit ? In hindsight, I would've just re-inventoried and hoped for the best. So in going forward, what would be the correct fix?
i deleted the disk pool and storage UNIT associated with this media server - storage server is still there.
No need for this as NBU caters for resize of a volume. Covered under this topic in Dedupe Guide: Resizing the deduplication storage partition.
Let's see how we can help you with current situation...
See TN http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH150431 on how to completely remove dedupe so that you can start again from scratch.
You should be able to follow steps as from point 7.
