Need Help on NSS Protection Level for VMware Intelligent Policy

Hello,

We have Netbackup Self Service and trying to automate VMWare Protections using vRA and NSS with Netbackup. We implemented VMware Intelligent Policy for protecting VMware machines and while try to protect the VM with VMware protection level we have no issues in adding the VM to VMware policy at Netbackup level but we observe that the VM machine got added into the VMware VIP Policy with query as "OR" instead of "AND". Please refer the attachement for more understanding and share us some fix on the same.

  • Hi

From looking at the attachment it appears you have changed the template query to include additional information (vcenter equal..).

So to fix it the template policy query must be left empty and you must let NSS manage the query.

Let us know how you get on

      Hello Jon,

      Thanks for your response!!

This is feasible but we have huge vmware backup workload, so we had designed specific queries to discover VMs from specific vCenters. Now we do not want to return back to finding VMs from all vCenters. Under vmware attribute in Policy we see 'vmware server list' (refer attachement) which might be doing the same but we are not sure whether that will apply to VMware VIP policy type. Please confirm whether removing 'vCenter equal to' from query and adding under 'vmware server list' in advanced vmware attribute in policy will help us achieve the same which we have now or not.

        Hi

This is more of an NBU question than an NSS one as it refers to core NBU features, not related to NSS.

However we have done a quick test on an 8.1.2 system and the policy attribute does work with VIP as you describe, so I suggest you go ahead and try it out.

        Regards

        Jon
