Ops Center upgrade

Hi,

I am not a veritas netbackup guy.

We have netbackup 7.5.0.6 which is out of support. Now i am going to upgrade. It looks tedious to me.

So i came to know that first i should upgrade OpsCenter.

i have some questions, if any one could help

1. From where can i download it?

2. All the upgrade guides talk about Opscenter may fail so i have to follow the points mentions in https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH211070

Here my question is should i go to 7.7 and then wait till i upgrade to 8.0

3. I am going to read about master and media server upgrade so it might take time (Say 1 or 2 weeks). during this time can i leave opscenter to run on 7.7 or 8.1 till i upgrade the master and media server?

4. How can i know if i have opscenter analytics?

Thanks

  • Hello and Welcome!

Lets see if I can give you some answers:

    1. From where can i download it?

    Start here:  https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US.html

Either log in first or click on Licencing and then log in

    Go to Entitlements

If you have a lot of different aspects to your license, find one that has the word BASE in it

Scroll to the right and click on the icon for Download Product

There will be three boxes at the top, the right one will be the desired version you want.  Put either 8.0 or 8.1 in there and click APPLY FILTER

    Click the Download Product icon

You will get a list of all the different downloads including OpsCenter.

    2. All the upgrade guides talk about Opscenter may fail so i have to follow the points mentions in https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH211070

Here my question is should i go to 7.7 and then wait till i upgrade to 8.0

There are three available versions right now:

    7.7.x (7.7.3 is latest)

    8.0

    8.1

Each one is a full version and can be upgraded to if everything else is correct.  This is where a second Veritas website comes in handy: https://sort.veritas.com/netbackup

From there you can create generic and maching specific checklists for upgrades including checks for memory, disk space, and the other variables.  Which one of the three listed above is up to you depending on your systems and what the checklists say.

    3. I am going to read about master and media server upgrade so it might take time (Say 1 or 2 weeks). during this time can i leave opscenter to run on 7.7 or 8.1 till i upgrade the master and media server?

Since the first upgrade step is OpsCenter, yes you can install any of the three versions and it will still talk to and report on your existing Master.  The basic steps are:

    OpsCenter upgrade

    Master Upgrade

    Media Server / Appliance Upgrades

(Optional but really recomended) Client Upgrades

    4. How can i know if i have opscenter analytics?

You can query OpsCenter by logging in, Settings / Configuration / License or you can see if you have a key listed in the online site.
