Hello,

I have configured Sf with VVr to replicate exchange server. I moved the server from DR site to main site and change the ip accordingly. After Syncronization, I moved the server to DR site and want to change the ip again for secondary server.

But how to do this as replication is alreaddy configured. Normal change the ip didnt work replication got disturbed I alredy checked this.

  • You haven't mentioned what platform you're using, as an example here is the link to the VVR 5.0 Administrator's Guide (Windows):
    http://sfdoccentral.symantec.com/sf/5.0/windows/pdf/VVR_Admin.pdf

see page 202 - Changing replication settings
"This option enables you to modify the replication settings that were specified when creating the RDS." [...]

If you are using a different OS platform/ SF version, go to https://vos.symantec.com/documents and look for the Volume Replicator Administrator's Guide for your platform / version.

  • Hi,

I am using Windows 2008 for Exchange 2007. My Exchange is installaed on D: drive which is going to replicate.

  • Hi,

Replication setting is just to do the setting in the initial stages, What I am saying is that after replication setup and everything configured, I want to change the ip of the secondary node, by doing this my replication setup destryed, so I need to know what is the procedure to do this?

  • Did you actually read the Administrator's Guide?

    Changing replication settings
"This option enables you to modify the replication settings that were specified when creating the RDS"
ie: this is to CHANGE your existing settings, AFTER the initial setup.

From your subsequent post, it appears in addition to changing the IP (ie: using the procedure on p202), the secondary also needs to be recovered as replication has already been disrupted due to the site move/underlying IP change.

As you haven't provided any details about the exact state of the machines, this is only a guess, but this might be a good starting point:
Administering Replication - > Restoring the secondary (same document as above on p226)
Use this option to restore the Secondary when its replication status is displayed as Failed.

Again, that is for SF/VVR 5.0, if you're using a different version, see https://vos.symantec.com/documents for the VVR admin guide for your version and look for the equivalent/corresponding section.
  • Hello,

I have 2 diffrent subnet of IPs on 2 diffrent sites.

I moved my secondary server to primary site in order to syncronize over the LAN, Once this finshed I test every thing seems to be ok, I want to move my secondary server to DR site which means I have to change the IP of the server. In this case, Rlink should be active during the process of change setting of replication.

But when I moved there my RLINK will no more be active as replication is setup on original site subnet, when I tried to change it will disconnected.

I already this this so I need any alternative.

    Syed
  • Are you saying you're unable to get to the "Change replication settings" as the rlink is no longer active, since you've already moved the secondary server without performing the necessary steps first?

Or are you saying you can't change the rlink this way because it will disconnect to make the change? Note to change the IP the replication is paused, change is made, then rep resumes using the new IP.

    Go back to the start
this is an overview of what should have been done to change the IP:
How to change an IP address that is used by VVR (Veritas Volume Replicator) in Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows - Volume Replicator Option
    http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/245929.htm

If you've already moved the secondary system, presumably this hasn't been done, which is why the previous post advised to check the replication status and refer to the Admin guide for steps/requirements to restore/get replication running again.
  • Hello,

I have 2 different set of IP on each site. My current IP setting will not on secondary site. Means if I used the same IP setting on DR site it will not work, means I have to start the replication from zero point.

    Hope you understand the issue.
