Fulldata and nodataCheckpoint


When data changes in an FS, the old data is pointed by the Checkpoint inodes then what are the differences between the above two types of Checkpoints.

    Hi,

    Yes you are right.... in nodata ckpt, original data is not copied but its location is updated.....

    Regarding specific region for full data ckpt, I don't believe there needs to be a specific region since full data ckpt is a complete image of the file system at the time the Storage Checkpoint is created.

    not quite clear with your question & description.....  can u plz elaborate more on description ?

    Hi Gaurav,

    Following is an excerpt from VxFS Admin guide:

    "The original data is not copied to the storage checkpoint, but the changed block
    is marked in the Storage Checkpoint"

    So in Full Data Ckpt, the original data is copied to another location but in 'nodata' ckpt the original data is not copied but its location is updated in 'nodata' ckpt, is it not?. Is there any specific region on the disk which is reserved for a Full data Ckpt or is it random on the disk which is then updated in the Full Data Ckpt?
