  • Hello,

The status is a showing as thinrclm because the array that you are using is capable of thin reclamation .. & name suggests its a 3PAR array.

When you have initialized the disk, you don't give this option of thinrclm however vxvm determines that automatically that luns/array is capable of using thin reclamation or in other words luns are thin provisioned ...

Thin Reclamation was introduced from 5.0MP3 version ...

for details, read these from admin guides:

  • The different status means:

    error:
There is a problem with disk - in Solaris this normally means you have not put a label on the disk

    online invalid:
Disk is OK, but it has not been initialized for VxVM control (not run vxdisksetup to create the private region)

    online:
    Disk under VxVM control

    online thinrclm:
Disk under VxVM control and is capable of using thin reclamation which means you can recover space from deleted files by a periodic VxVM API call to the array.

Note if a disk is not under VxVM control, then you can't use thin reclamation, which is why "thinrclm" is not shown for disks with status "error" and "online invalid".
