Source: Backup Exec System Recovery
FULL ERROR:
The backup fails and doesn't create an access point when it gives the message above. Every time I test the backup manually (both base and incremental), it fails. Sometimes, very rare, on the scheduled backup, it is successful. Most of the scheduled backups fail also.
I already went through the tech doc for this error:
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH54676
In reference to the above tech doc:
-my BESR desktop edition version is 8.5.7.36701, so it is not an old version problem.
-I tested all variations of the reg files to improve performance. All still gave same error.
-I tested saving to local drive with no compression, same error.
BACKUP SETUP:
I am backing up locally, from C drive to D drive. (C: drive=14GB used out of 465GB) (D: drive=930GB mostly empty)
OS: Windows XP Pro, service pack 3, 32 bit
backup is weekly incemental. 1 base each week + 6 incrementals (one each day)
My backup settings: compression: standard; verify recovery point after creation; Perform full VSS backup.
TROUBLESHOOTING:
-I have tested backup to network, failed-same error.
-I have tested no compression with about every other setting to test; including backup to network and all variations of the reg files.
-I have tested no 'verify recovery point after creation' Then I manually test recovery point and it tests bad.
-I have tested no 'perform full vss backup'
-I have run checkdisk on both drives with search for bad sectors, no problems found. I tested backup with 'ignore bad sectors during copy', failed-same error
-I recreated the backup job.
-Note: I have this same version of BESR running on many other computers in the same network with the same backup setup with no problem.
I tested everything I know except for reinstalling BESR. Which I doubt is the problem, but I don't want to try it b/c it takes so long to install and get updates. Unless someone thinks this is the fix.
Any ideas anyone?
BESR 8.5.9 just released. Please use LiveUpdate to get your version to this latest build, reboot, and see if this helps with the issue. To access LiveUpdate, open BESR, click Help on the menu bar, then 'Run Live Update...'
