Error ED800012 problems

Hi

I have new installed of  besr 8 on my sbs server 2003 backing up across a gigabit lan to an ethernet externel harddrive. My problem is that when I try to do a for a full system backup(amounting to about 50 gigs of data altogether) the backup can take up about sixty hours to complete and then when it does it gives this error.

(C:\), DATA (E:\). Error ED800012: The internal structure of the image file (CRC Check or Frame Header) is invalid, damaged or unsupported.
Details: 0xED800012
Source: Backup Exec Syst

I thought it might be a network problem so i tried it with the drive directly attached by usb2.0 to the server an it still took the same amount of time and gave the same error when completed.

The version if system recovery is 8.0.2.26324  and if i run liveupdate it tells me I am fully up to date (also if i try to install the latest patch BackupExec SystemRecovery_8.0_SP2_Patch_303847 I get an message saying the program to be updated is missing)

Any help is greatly appreciated

Any help

  • Hi I found the solution for my problem and as you thought it was the external drives. Both new lacie external drives that I purchased somehow had corrupt file structures.Once I formatted them to ntfs and resetup my backup the job was completed in an hour and a half. Thanks fot the advice

On average it should only take at most two and a half hours to backup the 50GB of used space. I think the ED800012 is really the least of your worries if it takes 60 hours to backup such a small amount of data; in fact the amount of time indicates a issue that could be connected in why you are getting this error.

Have you performed disk maintenance on the drive (scan disk for errors, and defrag for example)? Is the controller drivers up to date; how about its firmware? Have we eliminated all third party applications services and startup items by selectively startup the server during it next maintenance schedule and see then if you are able to successfully backup in a reasonable amount of time.

8.0.2 is the most current release build available; a newer build will be released soon that does address this specific error you can see if you can contact Symantec Technical support for a pre-release download of it for you to test; though I would first focus on remedying the backup speed issue.
