Symantec System Recovery 2010 and Veritas BackupExec 9.1 on same server

We have a W2k3 workgroup server with BackupExec 9.1 already installed and backing up the server to tape.  My question is I have Symantec System Recovery 2010 and would like to install this on the server also and schedule a monthly disk-based backup across our network in the image format used.  Are there any co-existence issues with the two?

The server is also running SQL Server 2000.

  • Backup Exec 9.1 is End of Life and End of Support. It uses the Symantec VSP (VERITAS snapshot Provider) to take a snapshot and BESR 2010 uses Symantec Symsnap VSS provider. Both this technologies are different, however, it would be a good idea to run the backups separately so that they don't conflict.

I would rather suggest to use the BESR as it is capable of doing Bare Metal Restore and also it can be used to restore individual files and folders.

  • both softwares can co-exist , Ensure that Both backup solutions Should not Trigger a job simultaneously .
