System Recovery 24.0

I downloaded the new release of SR 24.0.  On the Zip file. I checked the unblock box, saved it, and then unzipped the file.   I ran browser.exe on a WIN 10 machine running SR 23.3.  The progress window briefly popped up but then disappeared.  I uninstalled 23.3 and tried the install of 24.0 again.  Sames result.  I then tried running 24.0 on another computer running Windows 11 and SR 23.2. Sames result. install started then disappeared,  Do we have a possible bug?  I have not contacted support yet.  Thanks.

  • Hi,

    I noticed earlier in this topic someone was having trouble with .slf license file.  I have experienced the same issue.  During the install, the software asks for an install file as an option. I entered the location of the .slf file I generated from the support site.  The system gave a green check mark and then I rebooted.  When the computer came back up, I opened  SR24 and I noticed the software was showing trial version had expired and it wanted the license file again.  I entered the file location again and SR24 just froze for 5-10 minutes,  Eventually the software responded with the green check mark indicating a successful license install.  In reality the software continued to say trial version expired,  Tried this several times. I finally generated another license and the software accepted it and the software was activated.

    I have had this problem on two of the three machines I used for testing. with different .slf files. Any idea what is going on?

  • Hi again,

    I have found another issue.  After finally getting SR 24 installed on a Windows 10 PC and a Windows 11 PC, I attempted it uninstall; SR 24 to reload SR23.3 on the Windows 11 machine.  I tried uninstalling through Control Panel and through Apps.  Same result: Nothing happens.  After answering yes to 'Do you want to allow this app  to make changes to this device', the process just quits.  I then tried the uninstall on the Windows 10 machine.  Same result.  I am wondering if this may be related to the install issue that was fixed with the work around that was provided.  I had to download the BAT file arctera provides and do a manual uninstall.

    I really hope the System engineers will take a hard look at this release.  Can I really trust it if a machine needs to be restored from a backup image?  I have not tested a recovery disk yet. Disappointing...........

      I confirmed the same issue when uninstalling / repairing / modifying ASR 24 on Win 11 with .NET 3.5.

      For uninstalling / repairing / modifying, the following file needs to be modified as well.

      C:\ProgramData\Veritas\Arctera System Recovery\{7BC9C3FE-652F-4F65-8206-FCE0623BB2C1}\_Setup.exe.config

      Thank you for reporting the issue. Engineering was aware of it. They plan to fix.

      I added the above info to the below KB.

      System Recovery 24 installation wizard suddenly disappears. Unable to proceed with the installation.

        One small correction: On my 2 test machines, I found the file in

        C:\ProgramData\Veritas\Arctera System Recovery\{7BC9C3FE-652F-4F65-8206-FCE0623BB2C1}\_Setup.exe.config

        Not sure if this for all installations.

  • First the support fixes the problem - but now the tray icon doesn't work...
    This problem has probably existed for 10 years and is still not fixed.

      Could you open a support case? We will investigate the issue.
      I do not see the issue on ASR 24.

  • Now, there is informational message on the download site.
    In near future, the problematic binary will be replaced with the fixed binary.

  • Having the exact same issues that everyone is seeing here......  I have had this happen I think for the last 4 updates and last 2 revisions.  Its always some manual fix that is needed.  Ill wait for the manual resolutions to be released.

  • I have never experienced the issue.

    I verified on 10 machines or more.
    After downloading ASR24.0.0.65044_AllWin_Multilingual_Prod.zip, unblocked it.
    Copied the unblocked ASR24.0.0.65044_AllWin_Multilingual_Prod.zip to some machines.
    After copied it, I checked the properties for the zip file. I had to unblock it again.

    After that, I successfully upgraded from SR 23.3 to SR 24.0 on all machines.

    However, I hear that a user encounters the same issue as yours.
    I will continuously investigate the issue, and will update this post if I find anything.

    Each checksum value for ASR24.0.0.65044_AllWin_Multilingual_Prod.zip is as follows.

    You can check the value with the below commands.

    certutil -hashfile ASR24.0.0.65044_AllWin_Multilingual_Prod.zip MD5

    The machines that I verified are as follows. I just found one problematic machine in the below machines.

      I am asking Engineering this issue but I found a workaround.

      Open _Setup.exe.config in SSR\SSRx64\Install with Notepad.exe.

      The following lines are found in [Original _Setup.exe.config].

      [Original _Setup.exe.config]
      =================
        <startup>
          <supportedRuntime version="v2.0.50727"/>
          <supportedRuntime version="v4.0"/>
        </startup>
      =================

      Please update like below, and save the file. After that, install ASR 24 with Browser.exe.

      [Updated _Setup.exe.config]
      =================
      <startup>
          <supportedRuntime version="v4.0"/>
          <supportedRuntime version="v2.0.50727"/>
      </startup>
      =================

        This change in the setup.exe config file did work. I was able to install the software. Now the new Arctera v24 software will not recognize the SLF license downloaded from the Veritas web portal.

  • Don't feel bad. Having the same exact issue on my end with my 4 servers I need to upgrade from version 23.3. The Backup Exec Arctera conversion to the version 25 went just fine after I changed the properties to unblock. Did the same thing with System Recovery and the batch file begins to load and then nothing....disappears.

  • It's exactly the same with our company computers and I've made a bug report to support. I think it's bad when a new company (arctera) is going to show off its good side and the software hasn't been tested yet.

      I am just shaking my head,  How this got through Beta testing is a mystery.  Will wait and see what arctera has to say,
