Updating Directory DB Following Upgrade

One of my environments consists of three Enterprise Vault servers.  Two in one site, and one in another.  I just upgraded them all, and sat waiting a while …and a while longer … and even longer.

On review of the event log, I found this:

Log Name:      Symantec Enterprise Vault
Source:        Enterprise Vault
Date:          09/05/2012 11:35:43
Event ID:      8570
Task Category: Directory Service
Level:         Warning
Keywords:      Classic
User:          N/A
Computer:      ev1a.EV.Local
Description:
The Directory Service is waiting for another Directory Service to complete an update of the EnterpriseVaultDirectory database, or waiting to get exclusive access to the EnterpriseVaultDirectory database. Please ensure no applications, for example SQL Enterprise Manager or SQL Query Analyzer, are accessing the EnterpriseVaultDirectory database.

The EnterpriseVaultDirectory database is in multi user access mode.

The current EnterpriseVaultDirectory database connections are:

That was nice and helpful – I had in fact got SQL Management Studio open on my SQL Virtual Machine with a bunch of open sessions.

Closed them all, and I am all sorted. Something to watch out for!
