Here is a checklist to get you started planning your upgrade.  This should not be considered a replacement for a professional services engagement or a comprehensive document but rather a guide to help you think thru the process.  If you are unsure of any of these steps you should consult a professional.  :)

1.1 Prepare for the Upgrade
These are the last steps to prepare for the upgrade

1. Remove any Outdated or Retired Exchange Server and Journaling Tasks and Exchange Targets from EV.
2. Ensure you have a successful, full backup of the EV Indexes, EV Server System State including IIS Metabase, Export of ‘HKLM\Software\KVS’ and SQL databases.
In addition to the normal backups to tape the SQL DB’s should be backed up to disk should you need to roll back.
3. Adjust EV Site Schedule and verify all task ‘Schedule’ tab to ensure no EV services where set to use the site schedule, start processing. For EV 5.0 we will be setting ALL applicable services to run in Report Mode.
4. Backup Install Paths of EV including the CA Journal Connector on all servers to a zip file on each respective server. This will help facilitate rollback should it be needed.
5. Read the UpgradeInstructions_EN.htm, ReadMeFirst_EN.htm, and the Installing and Configuring Guide to be sure you have a good understanding of the process involved.

1.3  Perform Upgrade of binaries on all EV Servers
Follow this process to upgrade the software

1. Log onto each EV Server with the VSA Account and check MSMQ queues, to ensure that there is no work in progress
2. Close the Vault Admin Console and proceed to Stop all EV Services and perform an ‘IISRESET’ on all EV Servers
3. Execute Setup.exe for Enterprise Vault

1.4 Primary EV Server - Upgrade the Configuration
Previous section needs to be completed before doing these steps.
