Open up the NetBackup MS SQL Client on the client you wish to run the backup. Below shows the default path in the Windows start menu.

imagebrowser image

If the below box pops up click OK. (This will only pop up if you have not opened the SQL client before)

imagebrowser image

If you did get the above box you will then be presented with the SQL Server connection properties. If not then you need to select File and then Set SQL Server connection properties to get the below box. Select the client you are logged on to and the instance you wish to backup. Also input any credentials if required. Click Apply and the close.

Now that you have set the SQL client to create the script for the correct client you need to select what you want to backup. Go to File and Backup SQL Server objects or hit F2 for the shortcut.

imagebrowser image

Now expand your server and you should see the databases. Either select the databases you wish to backup or you can us the all option, and select your backup type. Note that if you select the Master database you can only do a Full backup as you can’t do differential backups on the Master database. Select the Save option and click the Backup button.

Here is a list of the main Backup types:

Full - Create a full database backup.
Full differential - Create a differential backup.
Transaction log - Create a transaction log backup.
Read/write filegroups - Create a backup of read/write filegroups in a database. SQL 2005 onwards
Differential on read/write filegroups - Create a differential backup of read/write filegroups in a database. SQL 2005 onwards

Name your Bch file so you know what it is. This makes it easier when you have lots of script files for different types of backups on the server. In this case I used Full-All for full backups of all databases.

imagebrowser image

You will then be asked if you want to view the script file click no and then Cancel the backup window box.

imagebrowser image

To run the script file go to File and Manage script files or F4 for short

imagebrowser image

Then click on the script you created and select Start.

imagebrowser image

You will be given an are you sure message click Yes.

imagebrowser image

You will then get a confirmation message to say the job has started

imagebrowser image

If you want to view the progress of this backup you can go to File and View status and this displays the status of the job.
