On November 7th 2016, Veritas released HPE Helion and Veritas Continuity Service Release 2.0. This managed disaster recovery as-a-service offering provides organizations a quick recovery of critical business services at a low cost by simplifying and ensuring an efficient DR management across heterogeneous data centers. The HPE Helion and Veritas Continuity Service Release 2.0 expands the support ecosystem to protect physical servers along with virtual machines and incorporates key additional security capabilities that organizations require for their critical and sensitive business data.

What’s Service Release 2.0

Physical server recovery to HPE Helion Continuity Cloud

Managing disaster recovery for heterogeneous environments in a consistent and simplified way is the primary benefit of HPE Helion and Veritas Continuity. The previous release of the service gave a unified way of managing your virtual machines running on VMware or Hyper-V.

HPE Helion and Veritas Continuity Service Release 2.0 enables disaster recovery and restore for physical servers just the same way as virtual machines to HPE Helion Continuity Cloud.

You can now recover physical servers into a Managed Recovery cloud environment (Physical to Virtual) and restore the same workload from the cloud back to the production site as a physical server (Virtual to Physical)- all with a few simple clicks.

The fully automated restore from a virtual machine in the cloud to a physical server on the production site is a key differentiator from other DRaaS solutions available in the market today.

 

 

 

Here are a few cool things about physical server recovery:

    • Ability to bring physical servers as virtual machines in recovery environment with a 15 mins or less Recovery Point Objective (RPO).
    • Ability to replicate boot and data of the physical servers independent of the disk and attach types. In fact, the solution will support physical servers booting from SAN as well.
    • Ability to preserve the network configuration in the target environment just as your production site.
    • Fully automated migrations, recovery, and rehearsals of physical servers

  • Single-click restore (failback) to production site from virtual machine to physical server.
  • Risks and Alerts ensuring accurate recovery measures without delays. (e.g. Replication error due to network turbulence).
  • Real-time configuration drift notifications (e.g failure of disks).

In-flight Data Encryption

In every cloud based solution, the top most concern that surfaces is the security and privacy of data during replication or data movement.

HPE Helion and Veritas Continuity 2.0 introduces in-flight replication between the replication appliances and you get a choice of encrypting the data with AES 128 or AES 256 before the data is relayed out of your trust boundaries (over WAN). Once the data reaches the target location, the appliance decrypts and persists it on the cloud storage. The solution already had Data at Rest encryption in recovery environment.
