“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change

Charles Darwin

thanks.pngA big thank you to you, our customers for trusting in Veritas and for helping us achieve a significant milestone. Verits was recently named Worldwide Market Share Leader by Gartner in Backup and Recovery Software, Archiving Software and Management Software Defined Storage for 2017 by Revenue[1].

In the Management SDS category, a portion of our business that I’m directly responsible for, Veritas maintained leading market share at 27.2 percent, while growing revenue by 8 percent in 2017.

At Veritas we look at SDS as two primary functional areas: Infrastructure and Management. Infrastructure SDS are your block, file and object products like Veritas Access, and Cognitive Object Storage. Basically, storage software with its own persistent data services.

infoscale.pngOn the other hand, we regard SDS management as the coordination of the delivery of data services across storage infrastructure along with capabilities such as automation and virtualization. Veritas InfoScale Enterpriseis our solution for SDS management as it provides data services and automation across on premises SANs and cloud. It’s also a unique SDS solution in that it actual spans both SDS infrastructure and management it not only provides virtualization, automation and delivery of data services, it can also deliver its own persistent data storage services.

So, why the quote from Charles Darwin? It occurs to me that in today’s era of business transformation, Darwin’s conclusion seems as applicable to every modern organization as it is to living organisms. To be successful, companies are required to deal with a multitude of factors including having the right cloud and IT infrastructure strategies. Beyond that, it’s all about being ready and able to adapt to change. What that means will be different for every organization but certainly may include integrating AI, ML and IoT services, and of course meeting evolving compliance and GDPRregulatory requirements.

Going, beyond the Gartner stuff, which is great, what gets me excited is that every day I hear from our customers about how their Veritas SDS solutions makes a difference in their business; whether it’s Veritas Cognitive Object Storage with its Integrated Cognitive Engine automating compliance workflows, InfoScale H/A services saving the day for a critical business unit or an Access LTR solution helping a customer improve their recovery SLAs.  We believe it’s proof-positive of our customers’ belief and support in Veritas and has help earned our company top worldwide market share in backup and recovery, archiving software and management software defined storage (SDS) for 2017 by revenue, according to Gartner.  OK, now the obligatory disclaimer.
