Backup Exec 3600 appliance backup VMware vSphere 5.5 issue

Dexter2014
Not applicable

Hello Symantec Team,

I have a client who is facing some backup challenges.

Infrastructure:

Backup technology: Symantec Backup Exec 3600. This is an appliance that comes with a Windows 2008 OS preinstalled.

Virtual infrastructure: VMware hosts 5.5, multiple hosts in a cluster, multiple VMs all Windows OS[2008,R2/2012]

Issue:

We have been unable to backup hosts using the Symantec Backup Appliance.  We have a number of Centos hosts that Symantec does not support using the file level backup so we wanted to back up the complete image.  We tried doing this and was unsuccessful.  We had a dhcp server that actually crashed when the backup ran at night and resulted in a network outage the following morning.  There is also a physical host that we are unable to backup .  As we discussed most of our servers are not part of our enterprise AD domain.  We have a few that is part of a standalone domain that the network group uses.

Ultimately, we would like to have all the hosts in our vmware environment backed up.  There is also a critical standalone host that runs Windows 2003 that we need to backup as well

Any ideas to resolve this issue? Please provide an action plan, key points to focus, and thoughts

...is your appliance at the latest version that supports VMware vSphere 5.5? If not, you need to consider upgrading to this.

Refer to the SCL on which version supports your version of vSphere.

Thanks!
