0 Bytes backed up - Macintosh Agent

Loop_Tech
Level 2
description of issue: attempting to backup files from a macintosh agent to a robotic tape library using backup exec 11d. The software will go through the motions - tape moves into drive, backup exec processes the backup job, creates a log of the backup and states that the backup is successful. except when I check the log it indicates no files are backed up - 0 bytes.

Hardware / OS / Software
Backup Exec 11d (updated via live update)
Backup Exec is running on a Windows 2000 server (SP 4)
Compaq / HP MSL 50000 series tape library

Source of back up - Macintosh Agent - xServe / xRaid, OS X 10.4.10 (was previously 10.4.9 - issue was present under this version of the OS as well)

more details: when we create the backup job, we can browse the diretories on the xserve and drill down to our selection, so I think the Remote Agent is working properly. I also tested backup to a folder on the Windows 2000 box to rule an issue with the robotic tape library - issue persisted.

After tearing my hair out every step of the way to get my mac backups running I have exactly the same issue.

Have you had any joy? This is hard work!

Hi,

This means that MAC backups were skipping the files and directories content. So i must inform you that if you are using 11d build 6235 then there is a hotfix for that. And If you are using 11d build 7170 then there must be some other issue.

It will be appreciable if you briefly tell about the data on the MAC server. And if you faced that on backups other than MAC please also tell about it.

Thanks

more information...

I am able to backup from the root volume on the Mac Server. The issue is when I attempt to backup from a mounted volume that resides in  /Volumes on the Mac OS X server.

We have a raided drive that all our data resides on, when we attempt to backup data from this raid drive it skips backing up the data, but still reports a successful backup with 0 bytes backed up.

after spending almost the whole day yesterday on the phone with Symantec support. They directed me to this hotfix for the Mac's remote agent.

http://support.veritas.com/docs/286938

I applied the patch, but it did not resolve the issue. I will be back on the phone with Symantec support today.

I am running build 6235, we'll see if build 7170 resolves the issue.
