20GB Tape only getting 20GB with Compression

Hello. I just installed BE 10.0d to a Win2k3 SBS box, with a Travan 20/40GB internal IDE tape drive. My backup job is estimating 26GB of data, but the tapes are showing full at 21GB.

I did allow BE to use it's own drivers.

Any suggestions?

Enable hardware compression, disable software compression?

If your data consists of image files such as .gif .jpg etc they are already compressed.

I have actually changed the compression from HW first to Software. I will let you all know what the results are.

As Patrick said, it depends on what you are backing up.
If you are backing up files that are already compressed then BE is not going to compress them any further.
Typically on a 40/80 gb tape you should normally expect to get around 60gb on it.
That's what i've found from personal experience anyway. :)
