AD and Sql Backup backup through Window agent

HI,

 

i would like to know if we dont purchase the agent for application and database for my AD server and SQl server,i will purchase only agent for window 

then is there any method i can take the back up of both server and ensure there recovery even if i need to do the backup in off time when no user is working 

on these 2 server

For SQL Server database, note that AFE will automatically exclude any .mdf and .ldf files from being backed up.  Thus, as previously advised, without a SQL agent, you need to do a 2-step backup/restore.

Hi,

 

You can take a System State backup but won't be able to restore AD items.

You can use SQL to make a backup nightly of your SQL databases, and then point BE to that particular folder and backup the *.bak files. However, to restore SQL databases you'd need to restore the *.bak file and then use SQL to mount it. You won't be able to restore while SQL is live.

Hi 

 

you said i am not able to restore the AD or according to Pkh artical i am not able to restore the indivisual AD objects i need to restore the entire AD.

We're both right. You would need to restore the entire System State, and therefore AD as a result of that and lose any changes made.

this is the risk you run when not using agents. They do cost more money, but the functionality behind them justifies this. You can always read below if you want justification:
