[ASK] Do i need a ESO License or LEO License?

Hello Expert,

I want to ask regarding my configuration, in shortly my management want to decide upgrading  theTape Library Autoloader from LTO 4 to LTO 6.

and my management require after upgrade Backup System will be more optimal.

but I am still confused about the license, whether that should be added, below is my configuration :

- 2 Media Server

- 1 Tape Library auto loader with dual drives

- 1 NetApp Storage

Note :

Each Media Server have 3 HBA, and all connection to NetApp & Tape Library through SAN Switch.

Scenario 1 :

2 Media Server can using any Tape Drive of Tape Library Auto loader. ( i mean 2 Media Server can using any tape drive ).

Scenario 2 :

2 Media Server can choose to assign which drive can be used ( i mean can i config 2 media Server to config manually )

example :

- Media Server A config to using Tape Drive 1 on Tape library autoloader.

- Media Server B config to using Tape Drive 2 on Tape library autoloader.

with 2 Scenario above what license do i need ?

Do i need a ESO license & LEO License ?

or only need ESO License ?

or only need LEO License ?

Thank You.

Regards,

Hmm possible key question is

- are you backing up data from the NetApp or intending to use the NetApp as a target devcie for disk based backup jobs.

Bascially ESO is needed to share a tape library with one drive across a SAN between 2 media servers (so it looks like you do need this)

LEO is needed for each additional drive in a library (so you need at leats one of these but may need one for each media server as both servers will see a 2 drive libary)

If intending to backup NetApp data via NDMP option, then an NDMP option license will be needed unless:

- the NetApp contains a VMware Datastore and then you may need an AVVI license

- you intend to backup thet NetApp via CIFS or the NetApp is preseneting an iSCSI LUN to another server (then you wuld need Agent for Windows licenses)

Not being a licensing specialist you may need to contact a reseller or our custoemr care team to confirm if you need a LEO on each media server or to discuss the differences in your scenarios

Hi Colin,

Thanks for the answer.

I'm Backing up data the NetApp, NetApp is content all VMware Datastore, the destination backup is local hard drive of Media Server, i config D2D2T, and yes i'm already using AVVI license for this.

as you said ESO is needed to share a tape library with one drive across a SAN between 2 media servers, What About if i have two Tape Drives ? therefore that what make me confused, to decide it, should i buy only ESO License or i should buy ESO & LEO license.

Can you give me the contact or email address of customer care or licensing specialist where can I ask about this?
