Adamm Mover Error: Write Failure!

Dell 1850 server using W2k2003, Spectra Logic T50 and Backup Exec 10d
Adaptec 39160 SCSI card with Wide negotaion enabled and Enable disconnect set to NO
Sync rate is at 40MB.
I have had the drives replaced in the Library, changed the SCSI cables and checked that I am using the correct ones.
I am not receiving any of the 5, 7, 9, 11, and 15 in the event logs.
I have checked the HCL
The T50 has 2 LTO3 drives that are connected to the U160 on separate channels.
I have also tried reinstalling the Backup Exec.

I am receiving the error when a job finishes on one drive and then at the exact same time to the second the job on the other drive fails.

Adamm Mover Error: Write Failure!
Error = ERROR_IO_DEVICE
Drive = "IBM 2"
{3385592A-A1B5-4B4C-9446-637E9193A504}
Media = "SCC004L"
{0C30352A-A6F0-48AD-9D09-420567D60BCF}
Read Mode: SingleBlock(0), ScsiPass(0)
Write Mode: SingleBlock(0), ScsiPass(0)

Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this.

Right guys I have a bit of news with this problem, it is a possiblilty that the latest firmware for the LTO drive could be causing this problem.

Can you let me know what version of firmware that your drives are using.

Both of my drives are IBM ULTRIUM-TD3 LTO3, firmware rev. 5480. The random I/O errors occur on both.

1 x IBM Ultrium-TD3
firmware: 54K1

Guys

I've been doing lots of 'googling'. From what I can tell, the lastest firmware for IBM Ultrium-TDS:
5480 without WORM support
54K1 with WORM support.

By following various links, I ended up at:

ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/storage/devdrvr/Windows/Win2003/

In desperation, I am trying the W2k3 tape drivers in the 'LTO_WHQL_Cert' directory.
If you do the same, be sure to read para 3 in the 'General Items' of the readme.

We are there, our problem has at last been fixed.

The resolution for the problem we were having was to enable term power on the drives (The engineer who made several sites visits was advised this by IBM). This has been done and we are now getting backups of our servers with out any failures.

They believe the problem is either too do with to mich noise on the HBA or that there is not enough voltage from the PCI slots.

The only thing is that term power is enabled on the drive by jumpers and is quite fiddly so you will probably have to contact your supplier for this to be done.

We were also advised to have disconnects enabled on the HBA.

Alex - hope you're still following this thread.

Oh you DID get my hopes up!

Engineer came on site last Fri eve. and the jumper for TermPower is already in place. 'back to the drawing board', as they say.

Alex, I can't see if you ever mentioned which firmware you are using.
5480 or 54K1?

(K1 is the 'same' version but adds functionality for WORM cartridges)

Thanks

Make sure that you have Remote Storage service disabled in Windows.  I was having very similar problem and this fixed it.
