Are symantec tape drivers nessicary for non robotic libary operations

Hi all

Are the symantec tape drive drivers requried if all im doing is labelling and backing up to tapes? I ask because on 2 servers at this org both have had issues when using the symantec tape drivers (one of them was fine).

While i am fairly sure the fault is on my end (some hardware config, not having a stab at symantec) will i be fine using the manufacturer drivers?

It is recommended that you use Symantec drivers for your tape drives.

If you using teh tape library with Symantec backup exec only then you should use the Symantec Drivers and make sure the removable storage service is stopped and disabled .I am not sure what you mean by non- robotic operation .
