Hello, I am doing complete OS drive backup (C:\) of WIndows 2008 R2 server. How can I find out what Backup Exec is automaticaly excluding from C:\ backup. Additionally, I would like restore the server without re-installing it. So I am doing full C:\ drive back, system state and shadow copy components. The data back is separate and it is on different drive. What can I exclude from C:\ drive full backup to speed up the process. I still lookiing to do restore in case of blue screen without reinstalling the OS.

Hi Rsiddiqi,

Let Backup Exec backup complete C:\ drive, System State and Shadow Copy Components, if you want the the server to be restored without any issue in case of disaster.

About selecting data to back up

http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO22702

And if you want to know what Backup Exec by default excludes from C:\ drive backup. Please refer below mentioned MS article which describes about a registry key "FilesNotToBackup". This is applicable for almost all backup applications. You can go to this registry key and check the data which are excluded automatically from backups.

Hope it helps.

Thanks!!
