B2D restore stuck at Loading Media when cataloging

We have moved our whole B2D directory to a new system and attempting to restore the information contained in the B2D files.

We have successfully inventoried the B2D directory but when attempting to catalog the B2D media, it stays stuck at Loading Media.

We've tried the following:

1) set backup exec so it doesn't use the on-media catalogs
2) set backup exec so it doesn't use fast backup and restore (from the backup exec utility)
3) updating Backup Exec to the latest version, latest patches, etc.
4) re-writing the NTFS permissions to the B2D files

We are at wits end and do not know how to resolve this issue or what to do next.

As at current, we are re-copying the B2D data over from the original source. The server which initially performed the backups is dead otherwise we wouldn't be in this position.

A side note which is likely relevant, we get the following error in the Windows NT Application Log when attempting to catalog the B2D media:

Event Type:Error
Event Source:Backup Exec
Event Category:None
Event ID:33808
Date:9/9/2006
Time:9:54:56 AM
User:N/A
Computer:DC01
Description:
An error occurred while processing a B2D command.
Drive: ReadFMTable() ReadFile failed (C:\BACKUP\B2D000005.bkf). Error=87

The EventLookup URL is utterly useless as it points to the media going offline. This is NOT the case in our situation.

We've also turned off auto-detection in the B2D settings and turned off read and write buffering.

More information - the b2d files reside on an SATA disk. I don't believe that makes a difference.

Hello,

Kindly refer the following Document:

If the Backup Exec Service Account (BESA) has insufficient rights to the Backup-to-disk folder, then backup and restore jobs stay in a "Queued" state.

Thank You,

Hi, the permissions on the B2D folder and the files within are set EVERYONE all permissions in NTFS. This is one of the first things we checked.

Any other thoughts/insight?

I've re-installed Backup Exec,

I have turned off buffered reads and writes from the filesystem and have granted explicit rights to the service account to access the files on the local filesystem.

I now get the following when trying to catalog the B2D media:

Event Type:Error
Event Source:Backup Exec
Event Category:None
Event ID:33808
Date:9/9/2006
Time:4:17:24 PM
User:N/A
Computer:DC01
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 33808 ) in Source ( Backup Exec ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: Drive: ReadFMTable() ReadFile failed (C:\BACKUP\B2D000101.bkf). Error=87.

When inventorying the error is as follows:

Event Type:Error
Event Source:Backup Exec
Event Category:None
Event ID:33808
Date:9/11/2006
Time:5:28:37 PM
User:N/A
Computer:DC01
Description:
An error occurred while processing a B2D command.
Changer: Couldn't ReadFMTables/RecoverBKF (C:\BACKUP\B2D000010.bkf). Error=87

Still trying.. in this instance we've tried writing to the B2D media as well with no avail and have opened a case with pay support. Looking forward to additional assistance from you Symantec gurus.

We got desperate - we restored the system which originally hosted the B2D folder, we mapped a share and then mounted that share as the B2D folder.

It now catalogs, restores, etc.

Best advice to people - restore/recover to the same hardware it was backed up to...
