BE 2012 CASO

Hi,

I am new to BE 2012 CASO setting. My current environment has3 media servers, one configured as CASO. Two tape libraries ( tape pool) connected via SAN.

1. Understand that if CASO server down. All the catalog gone, the other two media servers are not able to perform backup. Can I know is there anyway that if CASO server down, the two other media servers will still able to continue the backup job

2. As backup is centralised manage by CASO, if one media server down, will the backup job automatically scheduled to start to another media server by CASO?

3. What about while  the job running on media server A, media server A down. Will the job automatically fail to media server B?

4. If one tape library is down, will the backup job automatically fail over to the second tape library?

Thank you

Hi,

1. If you centralise your catalog/data on the CASO and it goes down, then yes, your MMS servers fail to run backups as well unless you manually edit the CASO's BEDB details out of each MMS's registry. You can replicate which should give you redundancy and protection if the CASO dies. Check below:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO23395

2. No, it won't work like this unless each MMS is configured with a backup job to backup the other's servers that it would normally backup on a day-to-day basis.

3. No, as in #2.

4. No, unless you've managed to zone each MMS to see the other's tape library. Which assumes you have ISL's in between your SANs or 2 additional FC HBAs in each MMS connecting to the other SAN. And you'd also need the SAN SSO license which is part of the Enterprise Server Option license.

Thanks!
