BE 2012: How to restore file on tape that is not in catalog?

I never had this problem on earlier BE, sorry to ask!

Here is the question:

I have a tape, made on another BE2012 system.

I can inventory and catalog the tape fine.

But when I go to restore, the backup set from the tape does not appear in the list to restore.

I have tried adding the backup sets to a media set, etc, but it makes no difference.

What am I missing?

Have you set appropriate date range in the restore window?

Yes, I absolutely DID open up the date range. I opened it up for years in both directions.

The catalog on this server only has 10 or so backups. There is no way for me to miss the backup set I am looking for.

(fwiw, in BE 2010, I never had this problem. The process of inventory/catalog/restore always "just worked")
