BE 2012: No option for "Backup to Disk and then Duplicate to Disk Cartridge"?

Tagin
Level 3

A new installation of BE2012 (ver 14.0 Rev 1798) on a 2008R2 Hyper-V server, with a locally attached RAID JBOD for  backup device and a locally attached Tandberg RDX for offsite backup. No additional BE options are installed, and GRT is turned off in the backup jobs.

Am able to run scheduled backups to the local JBOD with a "Backup to Disk" job successfully.

Am able to run scheduled backups to the local RDX with a "Backup to Disk Cartridge " job successfully.

However, the goal is backup to the JBOD and then duplicate that backup to the RDX. However, I do not see an option in the Backup dropdown list for "Backup to Disk and then Duplicate to Disk Cartridge", even if the RDX cartridge is empty.

This D2D2DC (disk-to-disk-to-diskcartridge) should be possible, I think. Any thoughts?

Bonus question!: In the Storage listing, the Compression Ratio column is blank on the JBOD row, and the RDX row.  Why is there no compression ratio listed? (Software compression is enabled in the backup jobs and I am indeed seeing a roughly 40% reduction in space used compared to the byte count in the job history listings.)

This should be listed when you select your Storage option when your are creating the duplicate job .  See this link http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO74448

By design the software compression for B2D is only displayed in the Job Log, please see this link http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH43029

Hi Imosla,

Ok, thank you for the info. I was trying to create a separate backup job, rather than using Add Stage on the existing job. Under Add Stage, "Duplicate to Disk Cartridge" is indeed a listed option. yes

And thanks for the info on the blank compression. It's kind of a ridiculously poor implementation on such a high-end product to require users to read XML files for this information; but at least I can dig for it if I need it. smiley
