BE 2014: Vmware backups

Hello,

I just have a basic question, Is backup exec 2014 suppose to take full VMDK space during VM backups or just the utalized space?

For eg, one of my vm is 600 gb with only 150 gb of used space (3 vmdk), but non grt avvi backup takes full 600 space on storage.

Thanks in Advance

Yes, this is expected. This parameter can only be changed when the VM is powered off else not.

It should take only the used space. If the physical storage destination is actually occupying full space, then start off by resetting the CBT for that specific VM using this KB - https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH197311.html

There are can be other causes as well if the resetting CBT doesn't help, such as lack of appropriate permissions (AVVI feature specific), if VM resides on NFS datastore, Linux VMs, not-NTFS etc.

Thanks Vjware,

but is this still applicable for Esxi 5.5? When I open Configuration Parameters" - I dont see "ctkEnabled" or "scsi0:x.ctkEnabled".

No problem like permission, NFS or linux machine.
