BE 2015 FP2 - Sharepoint 2013 with SQL 2012 Always On

Discourage
Level 3

Hi,

We have backup exec 2015 FP2 and a sharepoint 2013 farm using a sql 2012 backend, utilising always on using a listener name.

How do we go about backing this up? At the moment we are having to use sql to backup to a unc path and then back that up and not do any form of sharepoint farm backups.

In the BE2015 SCL guide, it states that you cannot backup\restore using the listener. However, it does state that you can backup the primary member. How do you go about doing this using a sharepoint farm backup job and not use the listener?

Or the best way to back this up...

Thanks

The proper way to backup a Sharepoint farm is to use the BE Sharepoint agent.  This will give you a backup which is logically consistent.

If you just backup the underlying SQL databases, you would probably find that your farm is logically inconsistent when you restore the individual databases.  See my blog below

Although the article is talking about SAP, the principle applies to Sharepoint.

Currently, this configuration i.e. Sharepoint using SQL Availability Groups is not supported by Backup Exec - https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH224492
