BE16 Linux Agent (RALUS) root browse error (access denied)

Hello,

We are trying to backup some Linux machines with BackupExec 2016, however we keep having problems browsing the clients. It works when we use the following solution from http://www.geekshangout.com/backup-exec-ralus-agent-for-linux-failure-to-browse-root/:

- find / -name beremote (says access denied in a /run folder)
- (in the directory that is denied) rm -rf .gvfs

However, this is not a good solution because sometimes it's needed or not desired that it is deleted. What we found is that in the config there are folder excludes, such as /run/ (where we had a access denied error). However when browsing the ROOT folder, the run folder seems to be included in the browse. The config says: Software\Symantec\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\Engine\RALUS\SystemExclude3=/run/user/*.*

Is there any other way to fix this problem instead deleting the .gvfs? And is this a bug or is this intended to work this way?

I wouldn't call it a bug as root is being prevented access to those GVFS mount points.

Here is a technote that does offer some other possibilities to get around the issue.

Hi Hopsnbarley,

I understand that root is being prevented access to the GVFS mount points, however in the config it is excluded but apparently the exclude is ignored when browsing?

I've discussed the workaround that you've provided, however it is not the desired resolution.

With regards.
