BE2010 Hardware Encryption unavailable for LTO5

Hi,

We recently bought a couple of LTO5 drives and have them working perfectly with BE2010. Only issue is that for some reason BE detects the drives as if they cannot do Hardware Encryption.

I am sure the drives are capable fo hardware encryption as their LTO4 predecessors were too.

Any ideas as of to why this is happening?

Thanks

What kind of tape drive is this?  Make sure it is included in the Backup Exec HCL  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH137050

Is the Media server updated to Backup Exec R3 with all of the available patches?

also make sure you are using Symantec Driver for the tape drive

Are these tape drives in a robotic library?  Some robotic libraries disable encryption by default.

In the Devices tab, did you right-click on the tape drives and check the Enable Hardware Encryption box in the tape drive properties?

Is this tape drive present in the HCL with a footnote mentioning T10 supported ?

Does this drive appear in the adamm.log with EN amongst "Device Features" section ?

BE is fully patched, Device is in the HCL with T10 support, I am using Symantec drivers only, and no it is not a robotic library. Its a Quantum LTO5 HH SAS 1U rackmount.

And there is no "Enable Encryption" box in the device properties.

Attached a couple of screens.

The QUANTUM ULTRIUM-HH5 is NOT on the BE 2010 HCL.  You need to upgrade to BE 2012 with patches (or higher) to get support for that drive.  You need to make sure that the inquiry string matches on the HCL as there are many variations.

The BE 2012 HCL states

  1. Required driver support can be found in "HF 212772". Use latest SP available by downloading: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH212772 or via LiveUpdate

I would speculate that your predecessors were QUANTUM^ULTRIUM^4 drives, which are on the BE 2010 HCL.

According to page 80 of  the BE2010 HCL it is supported and with Encryption, it also states that it needs the latest DDI included in SP4 and I already applied that too.

Sorry, but I don't believe that page 80 does include your drive.

I believe you are looking at this, which isn't the same drive.

Here is from the BE 2012 HCL:

They are not the same drive? How come?

No, they are not the same drive.  The inquiry strings are different.
