BE2014 + Overland Neo2000 device timeout

bandit61
Level 6

Server: Windows 2008R2 patched

Backup: Be 2014 patched

TapeLibrary: Overland Neo2000

With no indication the tape-library times-out and the backup fails. Not possible to predict the time-out, cause sometimes before the save even starts, the next time with both tape-drives loaded and alreday written data on the tapes, the next time during the verification of the backup. To top it all: the backup also finished successfully several times.

With the erlier verison (BE2012) we never had such issues.

Couple of questions:

1. Are you using the Symantec drivers for the tape drive?

2. Is that device supported by BE 2014? Check the HCL to verify this...

Thanks!

Did you install a LEO licence for the second tape drive?

-) didn't changed the drivers during the migration from Be2012 to Be2014, assume the installation-process should check that

-) have to check

Reply pkh

-) yes the LEO is installed

HCL-check: this is more than encrypted, but checking the printscreens, i would say yes. Otherwise I would expect an information or error-message. Attached you see the tape-library and one drive, the browser-gui of the tape-library shows no further information on the overland side, just names the library ML02.

we started the bakcup this morning after investigation and it is still running. Also yesterday it nearly finished, failing at 1,26TB of 1,35TB. Now I can provide more error-messages:

-) be2014_1.jpg  EventID 58053 device set to offline, nobody at that time had access to the device

-) be2014_2.jpg  EventID 57345 something about SQL

-) be2014_3.jpg  EventID 33152 Adamm Move Error

-) be2014_4.jpg  new version installed sql 2008r2, but sql 2005 is still around. Does it probably interfere with version 2008r2

For eventid 57345 and 33152 we found yet no solution.

I would suggest reviewing this doc for assistance with your timeouts.

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH24414

How to troubleshoot issues with a Robotic Library (autoloader/changer) and/or Tape Drive(s).

will follow the TECH24414, btw the 2 jobs started during day (yesterday): both finished successful. the regular night-backup started later, but 1 job already finished, the other is still running.

Firmware is definitely behind!

2nd job finished successful as well.

-) driver for media changer show Microsoft 6.1.7601.17514 and update was not necessary/possible

-) driver for tapes show Symantec 5.1.37.0 and update was not necessary/possible

-) attached the log from the discover.exe

-) no further actions today, will see if it will work again this night as scheduled

-) firmware-update scheduled for tomorrow, if backup fails

Backup thru night successful, no firmware-update so long. will check what happens this night and thru weekend-backup, before taking further steps.
