BUExec -> AWS best practices for billing

I'm having trouble figuring out the best way to use AWS to optimize billing

I'm using Veritas Backup Exec to back up my Windows servers. I have successfully implemented backup to both S3 storage and the VTL Tape Storage Gateway for offsite cloud storage. I am trying to understand the best product to use at the lowest cost. I think incorporating say an archive-to-Glacier rule into my S3 storage is impractical because Backup Exec software does not (yet) directly "understand" about glacier and how requests for data could be delayed and how to link all the various files Backup Exec uses in a given backup event to a specific data request that would be passed to Glacier (?)

I also don't understand the billing well enough to figure out if S3 or VTL is cheaper. I run full or incremental backups of 2TB or 600GB or 50GB and I understand how to manage and plan for those numbers and I think the main Storage Gateway cost revolves around this number so I think I can plan for Storage Gateway costs that way (?), but it appears S3 bills are primarily made up of "Requests". How do I translate or set an expectation of how a 600GB or 50GB nightly backups to S3 would translate to X requests?

Finally it appears we can "achive" tapes in the VTL to move them from S3 to Glacier for lower storage costs and according to this: we do this with our "backup software". How do we do this in Backup Exec? https://docs.aws.amazon.com/storagegateway/latest/userguide/managing-virtual-tapes-vtl.html#main-arc...

Hello,

For archiving tapes in AWS VTL gateway you can find the Backup Exec related steps in the following URL

https://docs.aws.amazon.com/storagegateway/latest/userguide/backup-BackupExec.html#BE-archive-tapes

The above steps will only move the media to offline media set in Backup Exec but to confirm if the tape is archived you need to check the AWS Storage Gateway console. It might take some time to finish uploading data to AWS. During this time, the exported tape will be listed in the tape gateway's VTL with the status IN TRANSIT TO VTS. When the upload is completed and the archiving process begins, the status changes to ARCHIVING. When data archiving has completed, the exported tape will no longer be listed in the VTL. S3 bucket storage and AWS VTL gateway pricing are region specific. You can find the pricing details from below
