Hello,

I have a problem with Symantec Back-up Exec 2010 R3.

After the first back-up job, Back-up Exec 2010 R3 eject the tape!!!, sow the other jobs will not run.

In “Destination” = “Device and Media” the “Eject media after job completes” option is not selected!!!!

What is the problem here!

Thanks.

Check the Alerts and see if there are any alerts pointing to Insert New media as this media may have got full.

Thanks,

The job is probably not completed.  After the tape is eject, check the Alerts tab.  There would be an alert telling you to insert a second tape.  You need to insert a second overwriteable tape for the job to complete.

"  Reasons why storage media would eject on its own:

1. Under the Backup Job Properties, Destination, Device and Media, Eject media after job completes is selected. "

The bullet is NOT selected !

Please look at the other reasons as well ..and not just the first line :)

Hi

When the tape is full it will be ejected so that it can continue the job as there will be no space remaining on the existing tape

Edit

You to need to look for tape of bigger capacity so that this issue will not arise or ensure you put the second tape in when this tape is full & still job is looking for overwritable media

Thanks

If you are absolutely sure that the ejection is not due to the tape being full, then delete and define the job again.

Is this happening with all the tapes or just one tape?? You may try using other tapes and then confirm.

...get the facts before telling the OP to purchase new hardware when it may not even be necessary!

...please stop posting for the sake of it. Read the OP's query...the tape ejects AFTER the first job runs...NOT because he ejected it.

...if you're writing multiple jobs to the tape, and it isn't full, then make sure the tape is appendable. If not, it will eject the tape with the next job that runs, and prompt for scratch/appendable media. You'd set this on your media set in question.

Thanks!

What has this document got to do with the user's problem?  DO NOT POST FOR THE SAKE OF POSTING.

I think found the point.

I made one policy that runs 6 jobs. My media set has a 2 hours overwrite protection period. In the Alerts I see an information alert :

--------

Media 'Donderdag EVEN' is overwrite protected.

The media in drive 'HP 1' is currently allocated and is not available for overwrite operations.

Media Set: Verkaart Differential

Overwrite Protection Until: 17-11-2011 22:30:58.

Appendable until: Infinite - Allow Append

---------

Why is this happens, maybe is there no possibility to have more than one job in a policy!

You can have as many jobs as you want in a policy, but your rules need to be set up correctly. If you manually created the policy and never entered in any rules, you're going to run into issues. You ideally are looking at adding in a rule that states when Job x finishes, the next job starts. And you'd do this for all jobs in the policy.

Change the media set to Infinite, Allow Append and your jobs should then append to the tape.

The first job of the night should be defined as Overwrite and the rest as Append

Also, all jobs must use the same media set

No.  This is not true.  You can have as many jobs in a policy, but they will all have the same selection list.
