BackUp Exec 10.0 and W2K3 SP1

Long time reader, first time submitter,

Since I have installed W2K3 SP1, my "Job Rate" for backup jobs has plunged from an average of 200 MB/min to 2 MB/min.

I have installed the latest Device Driver Installer - dated Apr 7, 2005.

I have a Seagate DAT 72-400 SCSI with a Certance Seagate-DAT432 Autoloader.

Anybody else seen any problems with BackupExec and W2K3 SP1??

Thanks

If you haven't worth a try.

Yes, I am experiencing problems. I suggest you read thread 46686:

Although this issue is not resolved yet, you MAY find that Win2003 Server SP1 has hosed your ability to do an IDR restore.

W2K3 SP1 tightens network security, especially if you have run the security wizard which is included with the download. That may account for your decline in speed.

Here's an update on my situation:

The problem appears to be related to the SCSI bus (???)

Uninstalled SP1 and reverted back to the original Adaptec SCSi drivers (Adaptec AIC-7902 - Ultra 320 SCSI).

Ran BackUp Exec 10.0 and Job rate averaged 135 MB/Min.

Reinstalled SP1 manually. This time it kept my Adapted SCSI drivers.

Ran BackUp Exec 10.0 and Job Rate was 135 MB/Min.

The only difference is that the first SP1 install was via a SUS server.

On another note....had another server with the exact same problem (exact same hardware). But when I manually reinstalled SP1 it reverted to the Microsoft SCSI drivers and it works just fine.

Still not sure what the exact problem is, but the good news is that I now have a THIRD server with the exact same problem. I'll see if I can narrow it down.

Hi,

Please refer to the link below which gives more information about Windows 2003 Service Pack 1 and Backup Exec 10.0

Important information regarding Backup Exec for Windows Servers and Microsoft Windows 2003 Service Pack 1

http://support.veritas.com/docs/276538

You may try running the backup to a Backup to Disk folder instead of a tape and compare the results.

What Backup Exec settings can be modified to reduce the amount of time it takes for a backup to run?

For further confirmation you may try running the backup using NTBackup.

We have upgraded from BE 9.1 to 10d and also installed Windows 2003 SP1. We have also a AIC 7902 onboard SCSI controller.

Now the data rate is from 120 MB/s down to 5 MB/s.

Are there any solutions ?
