Backing up Backupexec

Could anyone recommend what items needs to be checked on the selection list inorder to backup BackupExec.

DATA (it contains Backup Exec Database) and CATALOGS (its contains the catalogs generated by

the backups jobs) folders.

So does that mean i should configure the agent to backup the following

1) Catalog folder

2) Data folder

3) BEDB.bak file which is in the Data folder.

Is that all that is required to recover from a complete disaster of a BackupExec server?

If you have the SQL agent you could always back up the SQL instance itself, but that would be all you need above in order to recover BE...BEDB.bak will be backed up automatically if you select the entire DATA folder.

I recommend to keep a copy of DATA and CATALOGS folders away from the media server. In case if your media server crashed, you can get the existing configuration back on a fresh installation from them. If you backup those using BE again, you need BE to restore them back. Which means it will be difficult to restore from tape in case of a disaster.

Not really...you install BE as a stock-standard installation, and then do a redirected restore. Then continue with the normal process of rebuilding BE.

But tape drive needs to be configured, tape media needs to be inventoried and cataloged and then comes redirected restore.

By default, BackupExec makes a copy of ther BEDB named BEDB.BAK every night ar 0400.  This file is located in the \DATA directory, so you don't need the SQL Agent

if you grab this,that is all you really need.  You can then restore your configuration by using BEUTIL after a re-build

Grabbing the \Catalog directory just means that you do not need to catalog any of your tapes after a re-build/re-install
