Hi,
So currently we use some backup software to back up our virtual machines to local hard drives and then use Backup Exec to copy it from the local hard drives to tape. Im looking to streamline this into one operation with backup exec backing up the pysical machines and the virtual machines straight to tape.
Currently we are running Backup Exec 2010 R2 version 13.0 Rev 41.64 (64-bit)
So do I need any adittional licences to backup the vertial machines (VMware machines)?
Also when using our current software to backup virtual machines with SQL on them, all the SQL transaction logs are also backed up. Can you confirm that backup exec with be able to do this also?
Thanks
Adam

Hi Adam,
Check the 2 links below for further information:

Furthermore, consider upgrading to BE 2010 R3 as it fixes a number of issues with previous versions of 2010.
Thanks!

You may want to look into the Vmware Agent for Backup Exec. This is agent is licensed per ESX host and includes the Remote Agent for Windows (and linux) for all your VMs.
For databases (and SQL) you still need a license, but Backup Exec is able to do a GRT backup. It will backup the complete VMDK in one time, but you are able to restore indvidual files (and databases / mailboxes).
