Backup C: or System state

Hi,

Just wondering about wether I need to back up both the system state and the C:\ drive on Servers. For example, if I backup only the system state for my Exchange Server then does that mean, if the server fails and I have to rebuild it, that I have to manually install Windows and Exchange again and then restore the system state and Microsoft Information store for the exchnage mailboxes? And if I backed up both the C:\ drive (minus meaningless data) and system state then in the case of failure I can restore the whole server? What's the recommended way with this?

Cheers

For a complete server recovery, always backup the C:\ and the System State. And as you have tagged BE 2012, you could consider using SDR for an automated restore of your server.
