I'm adding a Netgear ReadyNAS RND4000 to our network. We currently use BackupExec 12 to run our backups to an external USB drive. Can I backup data stored on the ReadyNAS? Do I need an additional software, agents or licenses?

Even though you cannot install the agent on the ReadyNAS, you need to purchase and install a RAWS serial on the media server to be within the Symantec Licensing scheme

As Said by Ken you need to have a RAWS license installed on the media server to backup the NAS .
For backing it up you need to add the NAS IP in user defined Selection and add a account that has full previlieges on the NAS box in user account which will be used for backups .
