Backup Excec 10 for Windows - access denied

Alex_w

Hi,
Backup exec 10 running on W2003 server (no sp1) with Exchange server 2003, SP1.
For exchange's backup, I got plenty of calendar entries that BE 10 cannot backup with access denied.
I refer to veritas docs tid266075 & checked that the BE10 logon account is actually the domain administrator account, the built-in account test features also went through smoothly.
Any help please
Thanks

Alex

If you make sure that BE logon accounts are with enough rights,
Make sure that you have installed latest service packs and hot fixes.
Also this error may occurs because of errored emails, they need to be deleted using something otherthan Outlook.
Use MFCMapi utility from Microsoft to remove these emails. Download here : http://support.microsoft.com/?id=887724
MFCMapi can be run on your exchange server and do not be alarmed if your profiles look like outlook 2000 type profiles.  If it does not work then you have some static ports conflicting.
Hope this helps

Hello,

For Backing up Exchange using Backup Exec we require to configure our Backup Exec Service Account in the following manner:

1  : Account must have Active Mailbox not hidden from the global Address List
Send an email to the BE account and open it in OWA as it will create a mailbox

2  : It must be Exchange Full Administrator

3  : Member of the Local Administrator group if Exchange is not a Domain controller

Please find couple of documents for reference:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/256537
http://support.veritas.com/docs/305383

To verify if the account is properly configured, follow these steps:
1  : Go to TOOLS-->Options
2  : Select Microsoft Exchange
3  : Check the Box "Enable Legacy Mailbox Support" Click KOK
        http://support.veritas.com/docs/285797
This is only for the test purpose
4  :  Create a new job and Expand Exchange Server, expand Mailbox....If you are able to see each and every mailbox, everything is fine
5  : Disable "Enable Legacy Mailbox Support" in tools and options...
