I have a client with a current BE 10.5d installation:
BE resides on a SBS 2003 (Windows Server 2003) server, backs up the host as well as a separate Windows Server 2003 instance using both a remote agent and a remote SQL Server agent.
We have migrated the database server to a Windows Server 2008 installation, only to find out that apparently the Remote Agent for 10.5d won't install on Windows Server 2008 64bit (per forum posts and the compatibility list I found on Symantec's site).
Am I correct that there is no way to install the BE 10.5d remote agent on Windows Server 2008 x64?
Regardless of that, we are now migrating the SBS 2003 server to a standard Windows Server 2008 install, which looks like will run into the same problem.
We are looking at upgrading to BE 2012, the current version. Is it possible to upgrade from 10.5d to 2012? Actually, I think if we are able to get BE 2012 then I would do a fresh install on the new Windows 2008 machine, but in that case can we migrate jobs and history from the old server to the new one? Or would I be better off basically recreating the jobs altogether?
Anything else I should consider or know about? Thanks for any info!

Hi,
Upgrade to BE 12.5 first, then upgrade to BE 2012.

Read a good article by pkh on the link below which will help you in upgrading:

The upgrade is straight-forward, but always grab copies of the Data/Catalogs folders before doing the upgrade!
THanks!

There is no 10.5d, guess you mean 10.1d
Does not really matter as you cannot upgrade directly from 10.x to 2012 you have to upgrade via at least one interim version.
And yes the 10.x agent cannot be used with Windows 2008 x64
