Backup Exec 11d Keeps Crashing

ShuGurl
Not applicable

I inherited a Backup Exec 11d system that until recently was working fine.  Media Server runs Server2003 R2 64bit SP2 using B2D which is then written to tape.  I noticed last week that when I went to check the properties of a backup job, the window would go blank and the application would close.  Today I was attempting to do a restore from tape but the job hung and then the application crashed.  Now, every time I go to try a new restore job it creates a new job - meaning the job number keeps going up, since I started with restore 00058 and my last attempt was 00065 - and then crashes.  Also those last few restore jobs are not showing up in the job History list.

I checked the Application EV and found several errors like this:

What changed?  Were any MS service packs applied?  Any BE service packs applied?  Errors dont just happen on their own without a cause.

Perhaps a reboot could be started, then run a liveupdate on the 11d server getting all hotfixes and patches installed, reboot again.

An MFC*.dll file is a Microsoft file, it's a VERY common class file, that sometimes has issues where it needs to be upgraded, repaired, etc.  I seem to recall this happening more on WinNT and Win2k, and rarely on Win2k3, and never on Win2k8.

Of course, you are also on a VERY old version of BackupExec.  Since you are a 64bit platform, perhaps you should look into the current 2010R2 edition as you are about 3-4 major versions behind.  They even have 35% upgrade SKU's for people out of maintenance.

You need a upgrade to the stable version of 11d. Currently you are using 11d Rev 6235 and what you need is 11d Rev 7170.

Please contact symantec tech support and get this revision!!
